Coasters ( The ) - WAKE ME SHAKE ME

First performance: 30/09/1967

Coverinfo

Bruce covered the song at least one time in september 1967 with the Castiles at the band’s second gig in the 'left foot' in Freehold. Bruce takes lead vocals on the song. Only 26 minutes of the band’s 60-minute performance exists on the original master tape. Keep in mind that only a small amount of setlists of the early years has surfaced, so it may have been played a lot more. One show, double bill, with The Castiles headlining. This was the band’s second gig at the club (see September 16). The 13-song mentioned setlist represents The Castiles’ complete performance at this show, in the correct song sequence. This was The Castiles’ final appearance at The Left Foot. Although having only opened in September 1967, The Left Foot’s popularity dropped dramatically in March 1968 when the larger, trendier Freehold Hullabaloo club opened nearby. The Left Foot closed for good in April 1968.

Lyrics

Why don't you wake me, shake me?
Don't let me sleep too late
Gotta get up in the morning
About a quarter to eight

(Don't you know I'm bound)
I'm bound to my job
(My boss)
My boss is a big, fat slob
Can't even be a minute late
Or the boss will blow his gate

Why don't you wake me, shake me?
Don't let me sleep too late
Gotta get up in the morning
About a quarter to eight

(Don't you know I'm bound)
I'm bound to my garbage truck
(I got a lot)
Got a lot of cans to pick up
Can't even be a minute late
Or the boss will blow his gate

Why don't you wake me, shake me?
Gotta get up in the morning time
About a quarter to eight

I had a dream, I had a dream
I said, "I looked over yonder"
What did I see
I said, "Two big garbage trucks"
I said, "Are coming after me"

Picking up cans, I said, "Side by side
Why don't you swing down sweet garbage truck?
And let your buddy ride"

Why don't you wake me, shake me?
Don't let me sleep too late
Gotta get up in the morning
About a quarter to eight

(Don't you know I'm bound)
I'm bound to my job
(My boss)
My boss is a big, fat slob
Can't even be a minute late
Or the boss will blow his gate

Why don't you wake me, shake me?
Gotta get up in the morning time
About a quarter to eight

Why don't you wake me, shake me?
Gotta get up in the morning time
About a quarter to eight

Why don't you wake me, shake me?
