The Rascals hall of fame induction speech by Steven Van Zandt

 

1997: Little Steven was picked to induct The Rascals into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. The original members of The Rascals had been feuding for a number of years and Van Zandt was concerned that the induction and subsequent band performance would result in a very public fiasco on live television. Wanting to defuse any confrontation, Van Zandt donned a Little Lord Fauntleroy-type costume for the event and delivered a humorous induction instead of the more traditional speech delivered for other inductees. The Rascals had worn this type of outfit when they debuted on the national scene in 1965.

 

 

 

Little Steven and Bruce went to see the band in 1965, at a skating rink in Keyport, and headlining that night were The Young Rascals, who were promoting their hit Good Lovin'. Van Zandt (then 14) and Springtseen (15) each paid $2.50 for their tickets. 

 

The Rascals on Broadway

 

This was a limited-run Broadway reunion - 'Once Upon a Dream' - of the New Jersey rock band. Steven Van Zandt was the show’s producer.

The group's original lineup reunited for their first public performances in over 40 years with The Rascals: Once Upon a Dream, a combination concert/theatrical event that was produced and directed by Steven Van Zandt and Maureen Van Zandt with lighting/projection by Marc Brickman. In addition to the concert experience, the history of The Rascals, and the history of the 1960s through their music, is a combination of interviews with the four Rascals, filmed scenes of actors enacting key moments in the band's history, news footage, and archival footage of the band. The show originally ran for six performances in December 2012 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. Fifteen performances of the show were subsequently delivered from April 15 to May 5, 2013 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in New York City. Near the end of the show's Broadway run, it was announced that Once Upon a Dream would be taken on the road, with performances scheduled in various cities on the East coast of North America during May–December 2013.
