Bruce covered the song 2 times :

During a surprise appearance at the 2015 Light Of Day "main event" charity concert in the Paramount theatre in Asbury Park. Light Of Day organization funds research into possible cures, improved treatments and support for persons suffering from Parkinson’s disease and related illness. Bruce's set with La Bamba’s big band includes The Box Tops' "The Letter “ . Southside Johnny was on lead vocals.

Performed during the Castiles second gig in the Left foot in Freehold in september 1967. George Theiss takes the lead vocal on this song. Keep in mind that only a small amount of setlists of the early years has surfaced, so it may have been played a lot more. Only 26 minutes of the band’s 60-minute performance exists on the original master tape. One show, double bill, with The Castiles headlining. The 13-song mentioned setlist represents The Castiles’ complete performance at this show, in the correct song sequence. This was The Castiles’ final appearance at The Left Foot. Although having only opened in September 1967, The Left Foot’s popularity dropped dramatically in March 1968 when the larger, trendier Freehold Hullabaloo club opened nearby. The Left Foot closed for good in April 1968.

Lyrics

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane
Ain't got time to take a fast train
Lonely days are gone, I'm-a goin' home
Oh, my baby, just-a wrote me a letter

I don't care how much money I gotta spend
Got to get back to my baby again
Lonely days are gone, I'm-a goin' home
Oh, my baby, just-a wrote me a letter

Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no more
Listen, mister, can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once-a more
Anyway, yeah!

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane
Ain't got time to take a fast train
Lonely days are gone, I'm-a goin' home
Oh, my baby, just-a wrote me a letter

Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no more
Listen, mister, can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once-a more
Anyway, yeah!

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane
Ain't got time to take a fast train
Lonely days are gone, I'm-a goin' home
Oh, my baby, just-a wrote me a letter
Oh, go, my baby, just-a wrote me a letter
