Songinfo

The Drifters are a long-lasting American doo-wop and R&B/soul vocal group. They were originally formed to serve as a backing group for Clyde McPhatter (of Billy Ward and his Dominoes) in 1953. According to Rolling Stone magazine, the Drifters were the least stable of the great vocal groups, as they were low-paid musicians. There have been 60 vocalists in the history of the Treadwell Drifters line, including several splinter groups by former Drifters members . These groups are usually identified with a possessive credit such as "Bill Pinkney's Original Drifters", "Charlie Thomas' Drifters", Etc. There were three golden eras of the Drifters; the early 1950s, the 1960s, and the early 1970s (post-Atlantic period). From these, the first Drifters, formed by Clyde McPhatter, was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame as "The Drifters". The second Drifters, featuring Ben E. King, was separately inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame as "Ben E. King and the Drifters". In their induction, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame selected four members from the first Drifters, two from the second Drifters, and one from the post-Atlantic Drifters.

Bruce appears on Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, discussing Letter To You, Christmas albums, his upcoming Saturday Night Live appearance, and more. During the interview he reveals what songs had an influence on writing ' letter to you' :

" I always liked music what where the singer sounded happy  and sad simultaneously, you know....and I wrote about this a little but in the memoir that I wrote, where I always loved the drifters' "saturday night at the movies", "up on the roof", "under the boardwalk", ...for some reason, the singer always sounded hopeful,... resigned. Like he had his spirit but sad at the same time. And I felt the whole world open to you. So those are the kind of songs that I like, ..you know...and I think hit the deepest. "

Lyrics

Little girl, you look so lonesome
I see you are feeling blue
Ain't no use in staying in home
I know what you should do

Come on over to my place
Hey, girl, we're having a party
We'll be swinging, dancing and singing
Baby, come on over tonight

Now you don't need the address
To find out where we'll be
Cause you can't help hearing the music
Halfway down the street

So, baby, come on over to my place
Come on, we're having a party
We'll be swinging, dancing and singing
Baby, come on over tonight

When we get tired of dancing
And things start to getting slow
That's the real best part of the evening
To turn the lights down low

So, baby, baby
Come on over to my place
Hey, girl, we're having a party
We'll be swinging, dancing and singing
Baby, come on over tonight

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Come on over to my place
Hey, you, we're having a party
We'll be swinging, dancing and singing
Oh, baby, won't you come on over tonight

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Come on over to my place
Hey, you, we're having a party
We'll be swinging, dancing and singing
Oh, baby, won't you come on over tonight

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Come on over to my place
